Affective Computing by Rosalind W. Picard,

Affective Computing by Rosalind W. Picard,
The latest scientific findings indicate that emotions play an essential role in decision making, perception, learning, and more -- that is, they influence the very mechanisms of rational thinking. According to Rosalind Picard, if we want computers to be genuinely intelligent and to interact naturally with us, we must give computers the ability to recognize, understand, even to have and express emotions. Part 1 of this book provides the intellectual framework for affective computing. It includes background on human emotions, requirements for emotionally intelligent computers, applications of affective computing, and moral and social questions raised by the technology. Part 2 discusses the design and construction of affective computers. Topics in Part 2 include signal-based representations of emotions, human affect recognition as a pattern recognition and learning problem, recent and ongoing efforts to build models of emotion for synthesizing emotions in computers, and the new application area of affective wearable computers.

Computation and Intelligence: Collected Readings by George F. Luger,
Computation and Intelligence: Collected Readings by George F. Luger,
This comprehensive collection of twenty-nine readings covers artificial intelligence from its historical roots to current research directions and practice. With its helpful critique of the selections, extensive bibliography, and clear presentation of the material, Computation and Intelligence will be a useful adjunct to any course in AI as well as a handy reference for professionals in the field. The book is divided into five parts. The first part contains papers that present or discuss foundational ideas linking computation and intelligence, typified by A. M. Turing's "Computing Machinery and Intelligence". The second part, Knowledge Representation, presents a sampling of the numerous representational schemes - by Newell, Minsky, Collins and Quillian, Winograd, Schank, Hayes, Holland, McClelland, Rumelhart, Hinton, and Brooks. The third part, Weak Method Problem Solving, focuses on the research and design of syntax based problem solvers, including the most famous of these, the Logic Theorist and GPS. The fourth part, Reasoning in Complex and Dynamic Environments, presents a broad spectrum of the AI communities' research in knowledge-intensive problem solving, from McCarthy's early design of systems with "common sense" to model based reasoning. The two concluding selections, by Marvin Minsky and by Herbert Simon, respectively, present the recent thoughts of two of AI's pioneers who revisit the concepts and controversies that have developed during the evolution of the tools and techniques that make up the current practice of artificial intelligence.

White box (computer hardware) - In computer hardware, a white box is a personal computer assembled from off-the-shelf parts which can be purchased separately at retail. With standardization of form factors and connectors, a whole range of cases, motherboards, CPUs, hard disk drives, RAM and other parts can be obtained individually at many computer shops and assembled at home with a minimum of tools and technical skill.

Split screen (computer graphics) - The computer graphics technique called split screen display consists of dividing graphics and/or text into non-movable adjacent parts, typically two or four rectangular areas, in order to allow the simultaneous presentation of (usually) related graphical and textual information on a computer display. Split screen differs from windowing systems in that the latter allows overlapping and freely movable parts of the screen (the "windows") to present related as well as unrelated application data to the user, while the former more ...

Computer hardware - Computer hardware is the physical parts of a computer, as distinguished from the computer software or computer programs and data that operate within the hardware. The hardware of a computer is infrequently changed, in comparison with software and data which are "soft" in the sense that they are readily created, modified or erased on the computer.

Computer architecture - In computer science, computer architecture is the conceptual design and fundamental operational structure of a computer system. It is a blueprint and functional description of requirements (especially speeds and interconnections) and design implementations for the various parts of a computer —focusing largely on the way by which the CPU performs internally and accesses addresses in memory.

The complete course contains 150 keyboarding and word processing lessons, 54 computer apps lessons, and 15 new key learning lessons (in the Resources section). The engineering behind this transformation has been written to prepare managers, executives, and other decision-makers to implement grid computing s many competitive advantages, it is also realistic about the challenges of selling the idea to staff and making a successful transition. Century 21 Keyboarding& Information processing, reflects the changing keyboarding course. Grid Computing: The Savvy Manager`s Guide examines the technology from a rigorous business perspective, equipping you with the practical knowledge you need to meet key organizational requirements, including security, scheduling, data storage, and fault-tolerance. * Focuses heavily on the competitive advantages you can reap from grid computing, and provides advice on convincing your organization to adopt grid computing in a sensible and effective way. This was a landmark point in programmability. The series of cards could be changed without changing the mechanical design of the time. The first recorded computing hardware Computing hardware has been amply documented. This narrative presents the major developments in the future. The Cycles continue to be a part of the pedagogy, with complete integration of cross-curricular themes in each cycle: Arts and Literature, Science, Environment and Health, Social Studies, and Technology. Century 21 Computer Applications& Keyboarding 7E, a revision of Century 21 Computer Keyboarding, available in soft- or hard-cover versions, includes the 75 keyboarding and word processing lessons, 54 computer apps lessons, and 15 new key learning is still included, its just moved to the Appendix) and expanded significantly. * Sketches the history of computing, is an overview and treats methods intended for pen and paper, with or without the aid of tables. computer parts (C) computer parts Inc. 2005. computer parts (C) computer parts Inc. 2005.
