Electromechanics: Principles, Concepts, and Devices by James Harter, This comprehensive introduction to electromechanical devices and their underlying principles of operation gives technicians of manufacturing and processign systems the unified treatment of mechanical and electrical topics so much in demand in today's workplace. Practical, hands-on information related to operating, installing, troubleshooting, and servicing a wide range of electromechanical systems is presented. Chapter topics cover number notation, measurement, and units; linear motion; principles of simple machines and the lever; pulleys, wheel and axle, and the inclined plane; friction, lubrication, and bearings; work, energy, torque, and power; rotational power transmission; rotation, translation, and intermittent motion devices; the electric circuit; electromagnetic circuits and devices; transformers and power distribution; overcurrent protection; sequential process control; alternating current electric motors; direct-current motors and ac drives; and concepts of automatic control systems. A self-paced study guide for employed technicians and maintenance engineers working independently to upgrade themselves.
Market Institutions in Sub-Saharan Africa by Marcel Fafchamps, In "Market Institutions in Sub-Saharan Africa, Marcel Fafchamps synthesizes the results of recent surveys of indigenous market institutions in twelve countries, including Benin, Ghana, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, and Zimbabwe, and presents findings about economics exchange in Africa that have implications both for future research and current policy. Employing empirical data as well as theoretical models that clarify the data, Fafchamps takes as his unifying principle the difficulties of contract enforcement. Arguing that in an unpredictable world contracts are not always likely to be respected, he shows that contract agreements in sub-Saharan Africa are affected by the absence of large hierarchies (both corporate and governmental) and as a result must depend to a greater degree than in more developed economies on social networks and personal trust. Fafchamps considers policy recommendations as they apply to countries in three different stages of development: countries with undeveloped market institutions, like Ghana; countries at an intermediate stage, like Kenya; and countries with developed market institutions, like Zimbabwe."Market Institutions in Sub-Saharan Africa caps ten years of personal research by the author. Fafchamps, in collaboration with such institutions as the Africa Division of the World Bank and the International Food Policy Research Institute, participated in the surveys of manufacturing firms and agricultural traders that provide the empirical basis for the book. The result is a work that makes a significant contribution to research on the continuing economic stagnation of many countries in sub-Saharan Africa and is also largely accessible to researchers in otherfields and policy professionals.
Electronic Contract Manufacturing - Electronic Contract Manufacturing (ECM) is a is term used for companies that offer contracts for electronic assembly for another company. For instance, instead of attempting to manufacture complex circuit boards themselves OEM companies often outsource their manufacturing operations to ECM companies. Mack Molding - Mack Molding- a wholly owned subsidiary of the Mack Group corporation – is a leading custom plastics molder and supplier of contract manufacturing services. Mack specializes in plastics design, prototyping, molding, sheet metal fabrication, and medical device manufacturing. Limited run manufacturing - Limited run manufacturing in contrast to "mass manufacturing" connotes means of manufacturing that are used to make a rather small number of units of a manufactured article. The manufacturing techniques used for limited run manufacturing are often different than those used for mass manufacturing. Collateral contract - A collateral contract is a contract where the consideration is the entry into another contract, and co-exists side by side with the main contract. For example, a collateral contract is formed when one party pays the other party a certain sum for entry into another contract.
